Specialised lectures
Our experts give lectures at numerous conferences and congresses. Among the topics presented recently are:Holistic Test Competence
A systematic overview about a holistic view on quality, including typical worst case examples for many quality instantiations which show what happens if testers are ignoring this aspect. Using this systematic to structure and maintain skills within a company can create an important advantage for companies. more
Green Computing: paper for Computer Scope Magazine
Green computing has become a major topic, and performance testing can support this idea. In many cases systematic performance testing of large systems can identify superfluous performance hot spots. Applying only small changes to remove them saves a lot of effort and thus supports the green computing idea. more
Research projects
We are advancing the subject of Software Quality Management on a scientific level, too. Here is a selection of our projects:Research Project “Automated learning from error information”: Improving development processes through automated evaluation of software errors
Project description: SQS supports the research project of the Rheinische Fachhochschule in Cologne. This venture will develop a method for error analysis which identifies defects in software development projects and corrects them already during the ongoing project.
Duration: Start in May 2009
Research Project „QBench“: Methods and tools to assure inner quality while evolution of object oriented software systems
Project description: In this project a new concept of measuring technical quality was invented. The technical quality has a white-box view on IT-systems and focus on changeability, analyseability and other internal characteristics. In this project a set of measures to manage these characterics were identified. In addition to this some Return on Investment evaluations were done with the industry partners to demonstrate, that managing technical quality has a positive impact on the overal economical situation of a project. This was done successfully together with MMS-T-Systems, LogControl, Infor and PTV. Most of the results of that project are published in a book titled "Code Quality Management", by Frank Simon, Thomas Mohaupt and Olaf Seng.
Duration: October 2003 to March 2006
Research Project „SoftPit“: Holistic project dashboards to allow for an engineering like project management and controlling
Project description: In this project, which was co-funded by the German Ministry for education and research a new holistic IT-project governance approach was analysed. Together with our partners, among them Fraunhofer Institut für Experimentelles Software Engineering, Fujitsu, Orgatech, T-Systems Multimedia Solutions and LogControl, we analysed a metrics-based control-system enabling IT project managers to handle all risks in a project. In that project we implemented several dashboards to visualise business data. The general approach was successfully evaluated together with our industry partners.
